There are essentially 2 types of hair restoration techniques: the “strip” method (Follicular Unit Transplantation, or FUT), and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). NeoGraft is a type of FUE hair replacement therapy used by our Los Angeles surgeons that creates healthy hair grafts by gently removing hair follicles one-by-one.
Unlike the traditional strip approach, which requires incisions to remove a portion of the scalp, FUE uses a tiny 1 mm punch to remove individual follicles from the donor site. This technique has much less bleeding and can be performed without intravenous or intramuscular sedation. FUE has many other advantages, including:
NeoGraft is unique among other FUE procedures because it eliminates many of the challenges associated with the FUE, like the prolonged timeframe, follicle damage, and high cost.
NeoGraft uses vacuum-like suction to both extract and implant the follicles, thus greatly reducing procedure time. NeoGraft can usually be performed in the same amount of time as a strip procedure and therefore costs less than conventional, time-consuming FUE. Furthermore, since the follicles are removed and then replaced with pneumatic pressure rather than manual handling, there is less damage to the bulbs and greater chance for the follicles to survive.

Procedure & Results
Our surgeons usually perform NeoGraft using local anesthesia. Individual micro grafts will be gently extracted using NeoGraft in a precise, consistent fashion. Each harvested graft is then placed onto thinning or balding areas of the head. Once the transplant is complete, you will be able to return home and can resume your usual activities within a few days.
After about 2 to 3 weeks, the transplanted hair will fall out and the dormant bulbs will remain under the skin for about 6 to 12 weeks. After 4 to 6 months, you should notice significant hair growth with final results after about 9 months to 1 year.
